WWC Driver Development Academy Alumni Prepare for the 2009 Race Season<br />

Phoenix, AZ (Jan. 15, 2009) – As the first major races of the 2009 season rapidly approach, more than 15 already-successful Women in the Winner’s Circle (WWC) Driver Development Academy alumni are preparing to solidify their mark as the next wave of talented women drivers who stand on podiums in nearly all race Series.  More than 250 women from 38 states and five countries have attended Lyn St. James’ Women in the Winner’s Circle Driver Development Academy since its inception in 1994.<br />

In 2008, Megan Reitenour (17, Miamisburg , OH ) and Miranda Throckmorton (16, Coatesville , IN ) were two of the five inaugural recipients of Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation Project Podium matching grant awards. Reitenour successfully used her funds to help win Super Cup Stock Car Series Rookie of the Year and Throckmorton won Midwest Allstar Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year.<br />
 <br />
The 2008/2009 Academy class is the 15th class of the Women in the Winner’s Circle Driver Development Academy, which is a comprehensive education and training program for talented women race car drivers who aspire to the professional levels of motorsports.  Entry into the Academy is highly competitive and all women drivers who want to be considered must have raced at least three years, complete the Academy application and provide a documented race resume.  The Academy is a full-year commitment for drivers who are admitted, including three on-site weekends:  Physical and Mental Preparation; Business Seminars and Media Training; and, On-track Time and Technical.  Each participant leaves the weekend sessions with a series of assignments and deliverables that must be completed prior to being invited to the next session.  Academy staff are available throughout the year to give counsel and support to the participants.<br />

A strong advocate for women in the motorsports industry, particularly women who aspire to the professional level in racing, Lyn St. James established the Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation in 1994 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to professional development for talented, up-and-coming young women race car drivers.<br />
 <br />
The Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation currently conducts two primary programs: Project Podium (www.lynstjames.com/projectpodium) and the Women in the Winner’s Circle Driver Development Academy (www.lynstjames.com/academy).  Project Podium is a matching-funds grant program designed to empower promising young female race car drivers and help them further their early professional careers.  The Foundation also supports programs like Girls, Inc., the Wilbur Shaw Soap Box Derby Hill, and Challenge X and Kettering LITE, both university-based women-in-engineering programs.<br />

Lyn St. James Launches “Need for Speed” Experience For Women Only<br />
High Performance Driving Combined with Physical, Mental and Life Skills Coaching<br />
 <br />
Phoenix, AZ (February 17, 2009) – Auto racing legend Lyn St. James today announced the first-ever “Lyn St. James Need for Speed Experience,” combining classes in high performance race car driving with physical, mental and life skills coaching by leading national experts. St. James is the first woman to be named Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, logging seven Indy 500 starts. She has held 31 international and national closed circuit speed records over a 20-year period. The Need for Speed Experience is scheduled for September 24 – 27, 2009 in Chandler , Arizona .<br />

In announcing the three-day “for women only” experience, St. James said, “There are many quality opportunities in the market for women’s adventure experiences, but there is nothing available that combines a high performance, world class race car driving experience aligned with the mental and physical skills that relate to performance in life.” St. James is working with Los Angeles-based DSNV Marketing Group to launch this exciting new venture.<br />
 <br />
The authentic driving experience will be conducted at the well-known Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, and participants will have the opportunity to learn not only racing skills from St. James and other female professional drivers, but also mental skills with world-renowned performance expert Dr. Jacques Dallaire and full body fitness skills with fitness legend Kathy Smith, plus other special guests. At the end of the day, Experience participants will enjoy the hospitality of the four-star Sheraton Wild Horse Pass.<br />

The Experience weekend is limited to 40 women and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation, which supports programs for women in motorsports.<br />

Early bird registration closes on March 20, 2009 and early registrants will receive a $500 discount from the regular registration cost of $3,195 per person. Regular registration closes August 15, 2009. Hotel and air travel is not included in the registration price.
